Our History

The History of Brant Star Developments begins with Mr. Jack Speelziek. A builder who continues to teach his sons and daughters the value of good service. The second generation of builders in the Speelziek family, Ed Speelziek - President of Brant Star Developments, prides himself on carrying on the tradition of excellent value in a quality family home. Taking an active role within the community where they live and work is important to the Speelziek family and they have a history of participating and contributing to many endeavours.

2005

Brant Star is the first EnerGuide builder in Brantford. Building by EnerGuide Standards, a Brant Star Home delivers significantly upgraded energy-efficiency as a standard in every home. Each home has a combination of upgraded insulation in the walls and ceiling, air exchange ventilation and attention to energy efficiency. This combination provides for significant energy savings, a healthy indoor environment, reduces green house gasses, and exceeds the recommendations of the Governments One Tonne Challenge.

2004

Brant Star Developments Ltd. (part of the Speelziek Group of Companies) is a speaker sponsor for the 17th Annual Build Brantford Luncheon
Micheal DeAngelis wins the American Standard Award of Sales Excellence from the Canadian Home Builders Association for "Top Salesperson." Being selected the #1 Salesperson in all of Canada, proves Michael DeAngelis' commitment to Brant Star Developments and the Home Builders Associations.

2003

Ed Speellziek donates his time to help out with Habitat for Humanity

Participated as the "Master Builder" on the 2003 Habitat for Humanity Brant/Brantford Firefighters Association home build at 351 Nelson Street, Brantford.
Serving on "Brant County Development Liaison Committee" as the Brantford Home Builders' representative.
Served as "Past President" and "Municipal Liaison" of the Brantford Home Builders' Association.
Michael DeAngelis and Brant Star Developments won (again) the Canadian Home Builders Associations Sales and Marketing Award for "Top Salesperson", #1 in all of Canada!

2002

Mr. Ed Speelziek received the Canadian Home Builders' Association's "Rooftopper of the Year" award (Small Association) in recognition of outstanding service in the field of membership recruitment.
Mr. Ed Speelziek recieved the Ontario Home Builders' Association's "Rooftopper of the Year" award for outstanding service in membership recruitment.
Brant Star received the Presidents' Achievement from the Ontario New Home Warranty Program for being nominated for the 2002 Ernest Assaly Ontario Builder of the Year Award.

2001

Served as President of the Brantford Home Builders' Association.
Ed Speelziek and Brant Star are recognized by the City of Brantford for its generous support of the Trail System final link in the Northwest Area of Brantford. Brant Star provided use of land to make it possible to complete the final link of the Brantford portion of the Trans Canada Trail.
Served on the Waterloo Region Home Builders' & Grand River Conservation Liaison Committee as the BHBA representative.
2001: Received the Ontario New Home Warranty's 2001 Seal of Excellence for 16 Years of Excellent Ratings.

2000

Served on the Board of Directors of the Brantford Home Builders' Association as 2nd Vice President.
Received "Member of the Year" from the Brantford Home Builders' Association, for recognition of outstanding achievements and commitment to the Association.
Speelziek family generously donates to help build the Habitat for Humanity Brant Homes in 2000 and 2001.
Brant Star received the President's Achievement Award from the Ontario New Home Warranty Program for being nominated for the 2000 Ernest Assaly Ontario Builder of the Year.

1990-1992

Ed Speelziek of Brant Star Homes accepts an award from Ernest Assaly

Brant Star won a SAM (Sales & Marketing Award) from the Ontario Home Builders' Association for its Branlyn Heights Subdivision in Brantford.
Mr. Ed Speelziek, President of Brant Star Developments served on the Board of Directors of the Brantford Home Builders' Association.
Brant Star Developments won the "Ernest Assaly Award" from the New Home Warranty program for a "Company that Excelled" in providing a quality product and superior service to new home buyers. Brant Star was selected from over 8,000 builders in 1990.
Brant Star Developments was in the top 100 Single Family Home Builders in Canada as reported by the Southam Business Publication "Homes Magazine" Award.
